George RR Martin has shared with fans how dedicated he is to completing the latest book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series – The Winds of Winter. He is at home, attempting to write the book, but has recently revealed a new book release for fans to get their hands on. While some are excited to receive them, others are wondering whether The Winds of Winter is part of the release, or whether they will see this new book come to fruition at all.
Is The Winds of Winter being released?
On his website, Not A Blog, Martin shared a new release of books in the A Song of Ice and Fire series.
Many were salivating at such an announcement, thinking the author was finally finished with writing the long-awaited The Winds of Winter.
Sadly this was not the case, and the books are a rerelease of those in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, but in a brand spanking new volume.
The blog post read: “Check out the splendid collector’s editions of A Song of Ice and Fire from @foliosociety, they are truly masterpieces of the bookmakers art.
DON’T MISS…
“The second edition A Clash of Kings has just been released – here’s a look at some of the book’s stunning artwork by Jonathan Burton.”
With this message came stunning images of new special collectors’ editions of his earlier books, meaning mega fans can purchase these and become the few in the world who owns them.
However, sadly, there was no news on whether The Winds of Winter would be included, or where Martin is in his progress.
As well as these books, Martin is releasing audiobooks of his previous A Song of Ice and Fire novels but from one person’s perspective, which is also setting fans’ hearts on fire.
But as far as The Winds of Winter is concerned, it may still be a long way off.
What has George RR Martin said about The Winds of Winter?
So far, Martin has given little away about what could be in the story of The Winds of Winter.
Many have speculated as to whether it will follow the story of Game of Thrones, or whether it will deviate given the terrible reception of the final series of the show.
The Winds of Winter will depict the events in the penultimate series of the show, so it may be Martin takes this opportunity to deviate from the path set by showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff.
In terms of the writing, Martin has revealed he is “making progress” on the book while in isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
On April 14 Martin posted: “No big news here, but it has been a week or so since my last blog post, so I thought I would say hi.
“I am still up in the mountains, doing the social distancing rag, and writing Winds of Winter.
“I have good days and bad days, but I am making progress.”
He also assured fans that, while others may be writing TV series based on his books, such as the new House of the Dragon prequel series based on Fire and Blood, he was only writing The Winds of Winter, contributing to these series only with his “producer’s hat on.”
However, the release date may still be a way off, with there being the coronavirus still threatening to spoil further releases as 2020 rolls on.
