Right now Game of Thrones creator George RR Martin is isolating at this remote mountain cabin. There the 71-year-old author has admitted he’s been writing every day and things are looking pretty grim in Westeros. And now his latest blog post may have teased The Winds of Winter will be released later this year.

Martin’s latest post concerned his movie theatre, the Jean Cocteau Cinema in New Mexico, which has been closed since the lockdown began.

He wrote of how he’s kept his staff on, working virtually on the JCC YouTube channel.

And just before signing off, he cryptically teased: “We hope to keep adding content to the JCC… including new book events… once we reopen.”

Now just what new book events followed by a “dot dot dot” could the author be teasing but The Winds of Winter’s release later this year?

Back in April, Martin wrote of his sadness that WorldCon New Zealand was being cancelled and replaced by a virtual experience.

Last year, the author had said how he intended on travelling to the sci-fi convention and made the July 29, 2020 start his personal deadline for having The Winds of Winter in his hands.

Whether he meant actually published or in manuscript form is unknown, but that’s still quite the statement.

Nevertheless, following WorldCon’s physical cancellation, he made an interesting comment.

He wrote: “If there is a silver lining in these clouds, this will give me more time to finish WINDS OF WINTER.

“I continue to write every day, up here in my mountain fastness.”

If anything, it sounds like Martin is on the home stretch.

Even with the pandemic, The Winds of Winter really could release this year.
