The Beatles had many influences from Little Richard to Elvis Presley. But one John Lennon song, in particular, was too close to the bone for Bob Dylan in being influenced by him. The track is Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) on 1965 album Rubber Soul.

According to David Dalton book Who Is That Man? In Search of the Real Bob Dylan, the singer listened to Rubber Soul and was fuming.

He said: “This isn’t I Want To Hold Your Hand anymore!

Listening specifically to Norwegian Wood, he said: “What is this?

“It’s me Bob. He’s doing me!”

Dylan wrote: “Greetings to my fans and followers with gratitude for all your support and loyalty across the years.

“This is an unreleased song we recorded a while back that you might find interesting. Stay safe, stay observant and may God be with you. Bob Dylan.”

The Beatles’ reference is as follows: “Hush, little children. You’ll understand. The Beatles are comin’; they’re gonna hold your hand.”

Murder Most Foul was recorded a while ago, but the exact time is currently not public.

The song is the first piece of original music released by Dylan since 2012’s Tempest.

The track is certainly not the first sign of Dylan being fascinated by Kennedy’s murder.

In Robert Shelton’s biography, Bob Dylan: No Direction Home, three months after the assassination the singer went to Dealey Plaza.

There he “took the station wagon along Kennedy’s path”, “appraised the theory that Oswald acted alone” and “started acting like a detective”.
