Glastonbury fury: Outrage at Beyonce’s ‘irritating’ inclusion exposed by megastar | Music | Entertainment

The likes of Coldplay, David Bowie and Oasis will also have their best sets reshown by the broadcaster as the iconic Somerset festival celebrates its 50th anniversary. But one of the surprise performers from the last ten years may bring back some angry memories for one of the world’s most inspiring headline acts. Back in 2011, Beyoncé headlined Glastonbury and proudly claimed afterwards to be the first black woman to have the honour in the festival’s history.
Last year, Stormzy followed Beyoncé in being the last act on the night, again making the claim that he was the first British black headliner at the festival.
However, both were in fact wrong as Skin from Skunk Anansie pointed out in 2019 after her group headlined the festival back in 1999.
And although Skin admitted after Stormzy’s comment that she had “no beef” with the Grime star, she was left “way more irritated” with Beyoncé’s claim.
Speaking to The Guardian, Skin said: “If I’m really honest, I was way more irritated when Beyoncé said she was the first black woman.
“I really like Stormzy and I think he does a lot of good.
“I would never tear that guy down and I would never start a beef and take that moment away from him.
“But I had to stick up for myself.”
After Stormzy’s blockbuster set last year, the Vossi Bop singer made his claim to the historic title but soon backtracked after Skin got in contact on social media.

At the time, Theresa May had confirmed she was resigning as Prime Minister and Mr Johnson was the runaway favourite to replace her.
He is renowned for using his sets and personality to criticise those in power, and Mrs May was at the centre of another previous outburst from the star.
Stormzy widely criticised Mrs May over the Grenfell tragedy and used his performance at the 2018 Brit Awards to attack the Conservative MP.
In a rap he asked: “Yo Theresa May, where’s the money for Grenfell?
“What, you thought we just forgot about Grenfell?
“You criminals and you’ve got the cheek to call us savages/ You should do some jail time, you should pay some damages/ You should burn your house down and see if you can manage this.”
