As well as secretarial duties, Elisabeth helped Minnie Mae with the cooking each day.

She recalled how Elvis rose at 5.30 am for his standard breakfast of slightly burned bacon, hard fried eggs, peaches, and homemade Southern baked biscuits with butter and jam.

She described his favourite lunch: “This strange sandwich was made of peeled and sliced potatoes fried in grease with ‘burnt’ bacon. Each slice of American bread had mustard and slices of raw onions.”

Elisabeth earned a salary of $35 per week, plus room and board, becoming part of the family.
