The vehicle plunged from a highway onto railway tracks on Friday afternoon, police said. Thirty people suffered injuries after surviving the fall of around 15 metres. The country’s Federal Highway Police (PRF) said at 10 ten people had died in the tragedy.
The incident happened in the city of Joao Monlevade in the state of Minas Gerais.
The bus packed with passengers tipped over the edge of a bridge on the BR-381 highway and smashed onto train tracks.
A spokesperson for the local corporation said multiple ambulances rushed to the scene after the alarm was raised.
They said: “Several rescue and private ambulances have already rescued victims from the scene.
“The difficulty is in the regional medical network (Monlevade and Nova Era) to support the number and severity of the victims.”
