The Met Office has issued yellow rain warnings for parts of Scotland next week. From 6pm on Monday until 9pm on Tuesday, one yellow rain warning covers swathes of northern and eastern Scotland – including Aberdeen and Inverness. The Met Office is warning heavy rain could bring localised flooding, with hill areas catching up to 50mm of rainfall.
The warning reads: “An area of persistent and heavy rain will spread in from the east on Monday evening, lasting much of the night before turning showery on Tuesday.
“20-30 mm will fall quite widely across the area with some hilly areas possibly catching 40-50 mm.
“Further showers through the day could bring another 10-15 mm in places. With the ground already saturated this is likely to lead to flooding in a few areas.”
Another yellow rain warning has been issued for areas in the SW Scotland, Lothian Borders region, affecting East Lothian, Edinburgh, Midlothian Council and Scottish Borders.

Elsewhere in the UK is expected to be “mostly fine”, particularly in western Scotland today.
Sunday is expected to be a generally cold day for the UK, and tonight some areas are likely to see a repeat of the frost and freezing fog of last night.
The Netweather forecast for tonight reads: “Staying largely dry Sunday night, another cold night, large amounts of cloud around across central, southern and eastern England, but where skies clear, frost and freezing fog will form.
“A risk of icy patches on untreated wet surfaces. A few showers possible around coasts.”
The record for the coldest temperature this year is -10.2C, which was recorded at Balmoral in Scotland in February.
Although this hasn’t been beaten yet in December 2020, a chilly -9.6C was recorded at Altnaharra, Sutherland, in the Highlands on Thursday this week.
Bookmakers Ladbrokes make it 6/4 for December 2020 to be the coldest on record, and 1/3 for snow to fall in the UK on Christmas Day.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “We’ve already seen temperatures take a massive dip and things are only going to get colder in the coming weeks with a record-breaking December on the way.”
He added: “It also looks as though punters dreaming of a White Christmas will get their wish with snow already beginning to fall and looking likely to stick around.”
