Tesco UK: Supermarket issues warning urging customers not to panic buy before Christmas

Tesco has issued advice asking shoppers not to panic buy products. The message has been shared following fears the UK food supply chain will be disrupted.

This has posed a threat to the UK food supply chain as some items are shipped from overseas.

Possible disruptions may cause some concern for shoppers and promote panic buying.

However, Tesco has told customers they need not worry.

It has urged shoppers not to change their habits and continue to shop as usual.

DON’T MISS

“We have plenty of food for Christmas available in stores and would encourage all customers to shop as normal,” Tesco stated.

The supermarket giant explained it has already reserved plenty of stock on key items.

This means any problems in the supply chain should not be noticed by those visiting stores.

It added: “We’ve been building our stockholding of key products ahead of the Christmas peak and are working closely with our hauliers and suppliers to continue the supply of goods into our stores.

“We are also sourcing everything we can from the UK and looking into alternative transport for products sourced from Europe.”

However, there could be shortages on some items if travel restrictions continue.

Sainsbury’s added: “If nothing changes, we will start to see gaps over the coming days on lettuce, some salad leaves, cauliflowers, broccoli and citrus fruit – all of which are imported from the continent at this time of year.

“We hope the UK and French governments can come to a mutually agreeable solution that prioritises the immediate passage of produce and any other food at the ports.”
