For the current tax year, maintenance payments relief can reduce tax bills by the lowest of £351 (where maintenance payments of £3,510 or more a year are paid) or 10 percent of the money actually paid.

It should be noted tax reductions can not be claimed for any voluntary payments.

Where tax and National Insurance is paid after state pension age, it may be possible to claim a refund if it was done so incorrectly or accidentally.

Overpaid National Insurance can be claimed back and tax refunds can be received if a retiree had too much deducted from their pensions or overpaid through their job.
