Winter Fuel Payment is a one-off tax-free payment that goes into the accounts of some pensioners once a year. Heating can cost hundreds of pounds and be a huge burden on the elderly during the winter months, and this benefit aims to remedy that. Why haven’t I got my Winter Fuel Allowance yet?
The Winter Fuel Allowance can help elderly people to cover the cost of heating during the winter months.
If you were born on or before October 5, 1954, and you lived in the UK for at least one day during the week of September 21 to 27, 2021 (the qualifying week), you qualify for Winter Fuel Allowance.
You may still get the payment if you didn’t live in the UK during that time, as long as you live in Switzerland or an EEA country or have a genuine and sufficient link to the UK.

How much Winter Fuel Allowance you get depends on your age and circumstances during the qualifying week.
If you live alone or with people who do not qualify for the money and were born between September 28, 1940, and October 5, 1954, you’ll get £200.
If you were born between September 28, 1940, and October 5, 1954, and live with someone under 80 who qualifies, you’ll get £100.
If you were born between September 28, 1940, and October 5, 1954, and live with someone 80 or over who also qualifies, you get £100.
If you were born between September 28, 1940, and October 5, 1954, and live in a care home and don’t get certain benefits, you also get £100.

If you live alone or with people who do not qualify for the money but were born on or before September 27, 1940, you’ll get £300.
If you were born on or before September 27, 1940, and live with someone under 80 who also qualifies you will get £200.
If you were born on or before September 27, 1940, and live with someone 80 or over who qualifies, you get £150.
You get £150 if you live in a care home and were born on or before September 27, 1940, you’ll get £300.
Why haven’t I got my Winter Fuel Allowance yet?
If you are eligible for a Winter Fuel Allowance, you might already have noticed it come into your account.
Most payments are made automatically without you needing to make a claim.
They normally come into your account in November or December.
However, it could take until January 13, 2021, for the money to enter your account.
