Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, became a royal when she married Prince William. She has been through a transformation while in the family, a style expert suggested.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, stylist and lecturer at the Fashion Retail Academy in London Anthony McGrath commented on her various appearances.

He claimed the Duchess of Cambridge could use style choices to show her growing importance in the Royal Family.

“Since Kate has been in the limelight she has always been somewhat of a conservative dresser,” he explained.

“Whether that was because she wanted to prove herself to the Royal Family or was her own personal style, who knows, but she was rarely seen in anything too risqué.

“However, since marrying Prince William and officially becoming a member of the Royal Family, her outfits have certainly become more modest.”

He explained her style has evolved and her fashion choices have changed.

Anthony continued: “As Kate transitioned to her role as the Duchess of Cambridge, her style inevitably had an evolution.

“She had to leave behind the flirty and floaty dress, thigh-skimming minis and low-cut evening gowns.

The mother-of-three appears to have stuck to royal protocol while developing her own signature style.

The style changes could suggest she is gearing up for her future role of Queen Consort.

“While she now most certainly has a more demure, Duchess-worthy wardrobe, we must give her credit for staying true to who she is and not moulding herself into something else entirely,” the expert stated.

“Slowly, but surely, she has refined her style over the years and her style is without a doubt, suitable for a future Queen.”

The royal line of succession – who outranks who?

The line of succession to the British throne dictates the order in which each member of the Royal Family would ascend to the throne.

It is also seen as a ranking of importance with the head of the line, the Queen, taking the place of ruler.

Older children come before younger children. Traditionally boys came before girls, but this law was changed on 26 March 2015 before the birth of Prince William’s first child.

Incredibly, Catholics are still excluded from the line of succession, as are children born outside of wedlock.

The royals, who usually stick to a strict protocol when appearing in public, often arrive at events in ascending order of importance, with the most important royal arriving last.

Prince Charles, 72, is currently first-in-line to the British throne, followed by Prince William, 38, his oldest son.

Then comes Prince William’s children, George, seven, Charlotte, five, and Louis, two, and they are followed by Prince Harry, 36. Prince Harry is succeeded by his son Archie Harrison, born in May 2019.
