Supermarket news: Tesco outlines new lockdown shopping rules – ‘please shop alone’

Tesco has changed its way of operating this year by implementing safety rules throughout their stores. With coronavirus cases still high in the UK, the supermarket giant has updated its rules which all customers must adhere to.
Another rule that Tesco has implemented is a one-in, one-out rule where the supermarket monitors the number of customers in-store at any one time..
The retailer added: “We continue to limit the number of people in our stores and we have a ‘one-in, one-out’ system in place to ensure social distancing.”
To help reduce the number of customers in-store, Tesco also has a traffic light system in the majority of its stores.
This will indicate when customers can enter the supermarket and when they must queue outside.
Tesco said: “We have introduced a traffic light system at more than 1,300 of our store entrances. The system monitors numbers and will light up green when you can safely enter.
“If the light is red, then the limit has been reached and our colleagues will ask you to join a queue outside the store.”
When visiting the supermarket for an essential shop, customers can find sanitising stations in the store.
The retailer explained: “We have cleaning stations in our stores so that you can sanitise your trolley or basket, and you’ll find plenty of hand sanitiser around the store to use while you shop.”
For vulnerable and elderly customers, Tesco is continuing to offer dedicated shopping hours for vulnerable customers and recommends checking the online store locator tool to find out your local store’s hours.
Tesco added: “Some of our stores open an hour early on Sundays, at 9am. The first hour is just for browsing, so you’ll only be able to check out your shopping from 10am.
“As the NHS continue to work hard each day, we’d like to extend the thank you for all they are doing. We’re giving NHS, emergency service, and care workers priority entry to our stores to help them shop when they have the time. If there’s a queue at the front of the store, please come to the front with your valid ID to enter.”
Tesco isn’t the only supermarket restricting entry to those who aren’t wearing a face covering.
Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Asda are also enforcing face mask wearing when in-store and are asking shoppers to shop alone.
