Kristen Stewart has been pictured as Diana, Princess of Wales, for the first time ahead of a new film.
Twilight star Stewart, 30, plays the late royal in Spencer – which will focus on a weekend at the start of the 1990s when Diana decided her marriage to Charles, Prince of Wales was over.
This depiction of the people’s princess comes after Emma Corrin played her in the Netflix hit The Crown.
Stewart said: “Spencer is a dive inside an emotional imagining of who Diana was at a pivotal turning point in her life.
“It is a physical assertion of the sum of her parts, which starts with her given name – Spencer.
“It is a harrowing effort for her to return to herself, as Diana strives to hold on to what the name Spencer means to her.”
The new film shows Diana spending Christmas with the royal family at Sandringham when she decides to end her marriage with Charles.
Written by Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, filming is due to take place in the UK and Germany.
It is set for a launch in the autumn ahead of the 25th anniversary of the Princess of Wales’ death next year.
The line-up, as well as Stewart, includes Timothy Spall, Sally Hawkins and Sean Harris – although it is not known who will play Prince Charles.
Chilean Pablo Larrain is set to direct the film.
The Crown sparked controversy in its most recent season, with culture secretary Oliver Dowden calling for a disclaimer to be added noting that the drama is a work of fiction.
Netflix declined to add the warning.
