Princess Eugenie ‘fiercely protective’ of mother Sarah Ferguson – body language expert

Princess Eugenie, 30, may be relying on her mother Sarah Ferguson, 60, more than ever now that she has a child of her own. On Tuesday, Eugenie gave birth to her and Jack Brooksbank’s first child and the safe arrival of their son is understood to have delighted first-time grandmother Fergie.

Following the announcement of Eugenie’s pregnancy last autumn, Sarah shared her and Prince Andrew’s excitement at becoming grandparents.

The Duchess of York said: “Soon to be Grandpa and Granny are absolutely overjoyed.”

Sarah and Andrew live at the Royal Lodge in Great Windsor Park a short distance from Frogmore Cottage where Jack and Eugenie are currently understood to be living with their newborn.

Eugenie is reported to have formed a support bubble with her parents which allows them to mix households following the birth of her royal baby.

Writing in the Telegraph royal expert Camilla Tominey said: “It is certainly convenient that Eugenie and Jack are now based just a stone’s throw away from Windsor Castle, having moved into Frogmore Cottage following the departure of Harry and Meghan to the US almost a year ago. (Reports of them having moved out after six weeks appear wide of the mark.)”

She added: “It is understood the new parents will be spending a great deal of time at Royal Lodge, the Windsor home Prince Andrew shares with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, with whom they are now able to form a ‘support bubble’ following the baby’s birth.”

While Fergie may be on hand to help Eugenie settle into motherhood, it is Eugenie who has taken the maternal role in their relationship in the past, according to a body language expert.

Body language expert and author Judi James analysed photos of the royal mother and daughter and shared her findings with Express.co.uk.

Judi added: “Both Beatrice and Sarah have a tendency for excitable and very openly emotional expressions, with wide, rounded eyes and even wider smiles but despite being the younger sister, Eugenie’s body language has always suggested a calmer, more mature and thoughtful personality.”

The expert also claimed that Eugenie is “fiercely protective” of her mother who is in turn “fiercely proud” of Eugenie.

Judi added: “In many ways, it has historically been Eugenie posing more like the maternal one of the trio and this probably sits well with Fergie’s obvious air of vulnerability since her marriage to Andrew broke down and she was ejected from the Firm.

“This contrast between the two women seems to have forged some powerful bonds, with Fergie looking fiercely proud of her daughter while Eugenie often looks fiercely protective of her mother.”

Eugenie is yet to announce her son’s name but is said to be “doing well” following the birth.

An official Buckingham Palace birth announcement stated: “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie was safely delivered of a son today, 9th February 2021, at 0855hrs at The Portland Hospital. Jack Brooksbank was present. The baby weighs 8lbs 1oz.

“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of York, Sarah, Duchess of York, and Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank have been informed and are delighted with the news.

“This is Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s first child, The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York’s first grandchild, and the ninth great-grandchild for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.

“Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”
