Kate Middleton vs Meghan Markle engagement ring: Which Duchess has the most expensive ring

Kate Middleton, 39, joined the Royal Family in 2011 when she married Prince William, 38, in Westminster Abbey. Meghan Markle, 39, joined the family in 2018 when she married Prince Harry, 36. The couple stepped back from their royal duties last year. According to one expert, Kate’s ring could be worth £150,000 more than Meghan’s.
Nick Withington, Managing Director or jeweller William May explained: “Kate Middleton’s engagement ring is the one that William’s mother wore and contains a central 12ct Ceylon Sapphire with 14 diamonds surrounding it totalling approximately 2.00ct.
“The initial value is thought to be close to £50,000 but with the provenance and history behind it, the valuation would expect to be in excess of £400,000.”
Prince Harry popped the question to Meghan at his Kensington Palace apartment, where the two were roasting a chicken together.
In their first interview together, Harry explained that it was just a “standard typical night”.
How much is it worth?
The jewellery expert explained: “Meghan Markle’s engagement ring is a large central diamond thought to be a cushion-cut with a smaller (but not small) diamond either side and is said to be approximately 6.00ct in diamond weight with a valuation in excess of £250,000.”
When the couple first announced their engagement, the ring was thought to be worth around £120,000.
Nick added: “This ring is different from the one that she was wearing when the engagement was officially announced. It looks like Meghan has had the three main diamonds remounted onto a new diamond set band ring.”
Some fans have noticed her engagement ring has got an upgrade in the past year, with it now featuring just one large diamond on a thin gold band.
