Johnny Depp ‘actively pushing’ for role with Tim Burton after Fantastic Beasts exit | Films | Entertainment

Depp has worked with visionary director Burton many times throughout his career. The pair have worked on such projects as the cult classic Edward Scissorhand and the stop-motion hit Corpse Bride. Depp is now reportedly being considered by the director for his upcoming adaptation of The Addams Family.
It was announced earlier this week Burton is working with Netflix to bring Wednesday to the streaming service.
The series focuses on Wednesday Addams – of The Addams Family – and will feature eight episodes of the youngster solving a mystery.
Last month Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman proposed Depp was working with Burton once again in a new Addams Family movie.
The scooper reports Depp is now “actively pushing” to be cast in The Addams Family spin-off as the patriarch Gomez Addams.

Burton historically works hard to curate every part of his films, including casting and scriptwriting.
This would mean he has the opportunity to bring Depp on to the project, as he knows they work together well.
What’s more, Depp would no doubt welcome a part in the series after he recently lost out on his role in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise.
The 57-year-old might be deemed a risky hire at the moment following his public court battle, but joining Wednesday as a recurring character may help his career.
Depp played the antagonist, Gellert Grindelwald, in the Harry Potter spin-off but was asked to step down last year following his public court case against a British newspaper and his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
Depp posted a statement on his Instagram account which read: “In light of recent events, I would like to make the following short statement. Firstly I’d like to thank everybody who has gifted me with their support and loyalty. I have been humbled and moved by your many messages of love and concern, particularly over the last few days.
“Secondly, I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected that and agreed to that request.
“Finally I wish to say this, The surreal judgement of the court in the UK will not change my fight to tell the truth and I confirm that I plan to appeal. My resolve remains strong and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false.”

The actor added: “My life and career will not be defined by this moment in time.Thank you for reading. Sincerely, Johnny Depp.”
The star isn’t completely devoid of support, however, following a petition which was written up by his fans.
The petition titled “We want JOHNNY DEPP back as CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW” hosted on Change.org has almost reached its goal of 500,000 signatures.
With just 6,000 to go until the petition closes, it is as of yet uncertain if Disney will take any action following the powerful demand to bring the actor back into the Pirates series.
If Depp were to take on the role of Gomez Addams he would be in good company.
Gomez was most recently portrayed by Oscar Isaac in the animated film The Addams Family which was released in 2019 on a $24 million budget. The movie was a great success and grossed more than $204 million at the box office.
Before that, the ghastly gentleman was played by Raul Julia in both 1991’s The Addams Family and 1993’s Addams Family Values.
The Addams Family is available to watch on Netflix now.
