[ad_1]
Princess Diana and Prince Charles married in 1981 at St Paul’s Cathedral in London. For the ceremony, Princess Diana wore a collection of jewellery including rings, earrings and a tiara.
The gown featured hand embroidery and sequins, and it was completed with 10,000 pearls.
Princess Diana also had a 18-carat gold horseshoe stitched into the dress to represent good fortune.
At the time, the royal’s custom-made gown was valued at £9,000.
She completed the look by showcasing beautiful pieces from her jewellery collection.
Engagement ring
When Prince Charles proposed in February 1981, Princess Diana was given a blue sapphire and diamond engagement ring.
DON’T MISS
The iconic jewel featured a 12-carat oval blue Ceylon sapphire set in white gold and surrounded by diamonds.
It was created by the crown jeweller at the time, Garrad, and was believed to be bought for around £47,000, but now has a valuation of around £300,000.
The ring is currently owned by Kate Middleton who was given the piece when Prince William proposed in 2010.
Spencer tiara
Like most royal brides, Princess Diana completed her wedding look by wearing a tiara.
Unlike others who have married into the family, however, she did not borrow this from the Queen’s collection.
Instead, Princess Diana wore a large scroll tiara which actually belonged to her family, and it is known as the Spencer tiara.
The headpiece reportedly dated back to the 18th century and was made of multiple metals, diamond star-shaped flowers and it was set in silver on a gold base.
While the exact price of the tiara is unknown, it has been valued at around £160,000 after a similar diadem sold for the amount.
Earrings
Princess Diana kept it in the family again by wearing a pair of earrings which belonged to her mother, Frances Shand Kydd.
The diamond earrings had a central pear shaped diamond which was surrounded by 50 others.
The eye-catching jewels were likely to be on loan for the occasion as the royal was not seen wearing them again.
Wedding band
Inkeeping with royal tradition, she was given a wedding ring made from Welsh gold.
Prince Charles presented the piece to Princess Diana at the ceremony.
Similar wedding rings have been worn by royals including Queen Elizabeth II, Kate Middleton and Princess Anne.
