Kate and Prince William have demonstrated to be the perfect Queen Consort and King in the making with their behaviour over the past two weeks, according to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams. He said: “William and Kate are exemplary in their roles.”
The Duchess of Cambridge, who joined the Royal Family by marriage 10 years ago this month, was widely praised on the day of Prince Philip‘s funeral for helping feuding Prince William and Prince Harry break the ice.
The brothers, who on that sad occasion met one another in person for the first time in 13 months, were spotted speaking on their way back to Windsor Castle after the hour-long funeral service at St George’s Chapel.
Footage shows Kate drawing William and Harry in a conversation, before swiftly joining the Countess of Wessex to leave them to chat.
Kate is also believed to be among the royals who devised a plan not to leave the mourning Queen alone in the weeks after the loss of her husband.
According to a source, the Queen “will not be alone” as senior royals have agreed on taking part in a rota, which will see the sovereign receive frequent visits.
Mr Fitzwilliams also believes the Duke of Cambridge showed to be a fitting heir to the throne with the statement he issued after the death of Prince Philip.
The royal expert said: “The Duke of Cambridge William’s statement after his grandfather’s death seemed to me to be a model of what a future king should think and say at such a time.”
In his statement, Prince William pledged to support the Queen in the years ahead as the Duke of Edinburgh would have wanted and shared personal memories of his grandfather.

He said: “I will always be grateful that my wife had so many years to get to know my grandfather and for the kindness he showed her.
“I will never take for granted the special memories my children will always have of their great-grandpa coming to collect them in his carriage and seeing for themselves his infectious sense of adventure as well as his mischievous sense of humour!
“My grandfather was an extraordinary man and part of an extraordinary generation.
DON’T MISS
“Catherine and I will continue to do what he would have wanted and will support The Queen in the years ahead.
“I will miss my Grandpa, but I know he would want us to get on with the job.”
Prince William and Kate have been among the first royals to resume face-to-face visits after the funeral of Prince Philip.
Yesterday, on the Queen’s 95th birthday, the Duke and Duchess visited the RAF Air Cadets’ 282 (East Ham) Squadron in east London, in an engagement filled with tributes to the Duke of Edinburgh’s work.
There, Kate and William heard how young people have been supported through the Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
Prince Philip served as Honorary Air Commodore-in-Chief of the Air Training Corp for 63 years, before passing the military patronage on to Kate – who is now Honorary Air Commandant.
During the visit, the squadron paid tribute to the Duke giving him a rousing “hip, hip hooray”.
The Cambridges receive special permission from the Queen to attend the engagement during a period of royal mourning to honour Prince Philip’s links with the DoE Awards and air cadets.
While the national period of mourning ended on Sunday, the Royal Family will continue their mourning until the end of today.
Kate and Prince William haven’t been the only royals at work this week.
Princess Anne, who walked behind the coffin of her father alongside Prince Charles during the procession on Saturday, visited three Gloucestershire hospitals on Wednesday.
During the outing, the Princess Royal opened a memorial garden for those who lost their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic.
