Princess Eugenie’s ‘unusual’ engagement ring has sweet link to Kate Middleton’s – pictures

Princess Eugenie was given a diamond and sapphire ring when Jack Brooksbank proposed in January 2018. The jewel features the central pink stone surrounded by a number of small diamonds.

The unique jewel was partly designed by Jack and could be worth a huge sum of money, according to Lorna Haddon, head of diamonds and jewellery at Beaverbrooks.

She stated: “Eugenie’s engagement ring features a classic gold band set with a stunning padparadscha sapphire.

“The rare gem is nestled within ten brilliant cut diamonds and two pear cut diamonds to emphasise the central gem and create an eye-catching finish.

“The slim gold band accentuates the central piece and draws the eye straight to the gorgeous and unusual sapphire.

DON’T MISS

“Eugenie’s historic ring is estimated to be worth around the £100,000 mark, due to its rare padparadscha sapphire.”

Princess Eugenie is not the only royal to veer away from a traditional diamond engagement ring however.

Kate Middleton famously wears the blue sapphire and diamond ring which once belonged to Princess Diana.

Lorna added: “Vibrant coloured gemstones paired with diamonds are becoming increasingly popular for brides who are looking for a statement engagement ring.

“They have been a key feature in royal proposals for many years.”

Kate and Prince William became engaged in November 2010 and married five months later.

Kate’s engagement ring has a 12-carat oval sapphire set in 18k white gold.

The rock is surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds and has been valued at a whopping £300,000.

It previously belonged to Princess Diana and was given to her by Prince Charles.

While the sapphire colours are not the same, there are some similarities in the design of Kate and Princess Eugenie’s ring.

The reason for this could date back 30 years because of the rings worn by Princess Diana and Princess Eugenie’s mother, Sarah Ferguson.

Jack was believed to have taken inspiration from the ruby and diamond engagement ring Sarah was given from Prince Andrew.

Sarah’s ring had similarities to the one worn by Princess Diana, now belonging to Kate.

This is because Sarah and Princess Diana reportedly picked their jewel from former crown jeweller Garrard.

Whatever the inspiration, both royals rings have timeless designs sure to be a favourite with royal fans.
