Marvel fans have been awaiting the debut of the Eternals for some time, following their announcement in 2019. The crime-fighting team’s first trailer revealed they have been around for thousands of years while secretly living alongside humans in harmony. However, the trailer also included some subtle references to Steve Rogers – otherwise known as Captain America.
The first reference comes in at around 57 seconds where Thena (Angelina Jolie) is swinging her sword.
For a split second viewers can see someone behind her holding a steel round shield that has a star emblazoned onto it.
This is, of course, a reference to Captain America’s iconic circular shield.
There is another oblique nod to the hero at one minute 30 seconds in the trailer.

After the events of Avengers Endgame, the team of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes has dwindled rapidly.
Although the team were laughing at Ikaris’ comments, he could be looking to join and lead the Avengers.
The Eternals movie is due out later this year and has been directed by Chloe Zhao.
Zhao recently released Nomadland, a film starring Frances McDormand.
The film was a smash hit, winning four awards at the 74th Academy Awards.
Included in this gongs was Best Actress, Best Director and Best Picture.
Eternals is due for release on November 5, 2021.
