The Queen is known for her brightly coloured outfits, which are almost always accessorised with one of her valuable brooches. For her latest appearance, Her Majesty wore a rare brooch in the shape of a butterfly.

In the photo, taken of the Queen in a room in Windsor Castle, Her Majesty is wearing a floral dress in cream, pink, and green colours.

As for accessories, the Queen opted for her pearl earrings, her three strings of pearl necklaces, and a butterfly shaped brooch for the appearance.

The brooch is made of diamonds and rubies and has rarely been seen in public.

The Queen has only worn the brooch a few times in the past, such as for a visit to Sandringham’s Women Institute in January 2012.

Her Majesty also wore the brooch to attend church in Balmoral in August 2019.

At the time, the Queen paired the brooch with a dark pink coat and matching hat, as well as her three strings of pearl necklaces.

When she does wear the brooch, Her Majesty usually opts for a pink or red outfit as the rubies on the brooch complement the colours well.

The butterfly brooch was given to the Queen as a wedding gift by the Dowager Countess of Onslow.

Charlotte White, Head of Design at Europe’s largest online diamond jeweller 77 Diamonds, commented on the brooch’s significance.

She said: “What a welcome treat to see the Queen donning her sparkling diamond and ruby butterfly brooch.

“The summery, colourful and graceful appearance of a butterfly is sometimes said to symbolise transformation and spiritual rebirth.

“That said, this is not a piece the Queen has worn regularly over recent years. The Queen last wore this diamond and ruby butterly brooch in 2109 during a church service at Balmoral and before that in 2012 at the Sandringham Women’s Institute.

“Her Majesty originally received the jewel as a gift for her wedding to Prince Philip in 1947 from the Dowager Countess of Onslow.”

The Queen received the set, which included a tiara and a necklace, from Asaf Jah VII, the Nizam of Hyderabad.

The large diamond rose brooch Her Majesty often wears today was in fact dismantled from the tiara.

The last time the Queen wore the impressive brooch was for her first virtual appearance since the funeral of Prince Philip in April.

For the video call, Her Majesty donned the brooch with a blue silk floral dress and her iconic pearl necklaces.
