The controversy surrounding the name of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s new daughter has been described as a “messy back-and-forth”. Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor’s first name was chosen in honour of the Queen. Royally Obsessed podcast hosts Rachel Bowie and Roberta Fiorito gave insight into what this said about the monarch’s bond with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Ms Fiorito told listeners: “Omid Scobie did confirm that Harry and Meghan got permission from the Queen to use Lilibet in their daughter’s name.
“He said a Sussex source said the Queen was the first family that Harry called after her birth.
“During that conversation he shared the couple’s hope of naming their daughter in her honour.
“Had she not been supportive, they would have not used the name.”

She continued: “So this really goes against what the BBC was saying.
“A Palace source told them that the Queen was never consulted.
“It’s really just a messy back-and-forth.”
Lilibet Diana is the Queen’s eleventh great-grandchild.
She said: “It’s very clear that their relationship with the Queen is solid.
“In the Oprah interview, they really made that apparent.”
The Duke and Duchess have now issued a legal letter accusing the BBC of “false and defamatory” reporting over the story regarding their newborn daughter name.
Lilibet Diana was born in a US hospital on June 4.
She is also now eighth in the line of succession to the British throne.
