The Duchess of Cambridge is an avid tennis fan and has been the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) since 2016 after taking over the role from the Queen. She has been a regular at the tournament since before she became a royal.

Today, Kate made an appearance at the tennis tournament alongside AELTC Chief Executive Sally Bolton and AELTC Committee Member and retired tennis player, Tim Henman.

But following her surprise appearance, Kate took to Twitter to predict whom she thinks will take home the trophy this year.

Tweeting from the Kensington Royal Twitter account, her tweet read: Unbiased prediction to win it: Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu #Wimbledon.”

But her tweet sparked a furious Twitter debate with many claiming Roger Federer will be taking home the win this year.

One person said: “I hate to say it but when it’s Wimbledon I’m afraid I’m not patriotic as I love Roger Federer.

“I know! Please don’t send me to the Tower #gulp.”

Another added: “We know you really want Roger Federer to win it actually.”

Someone else tweeted: “Raducana best chance of a female British winner for the foreseeable future, but Andy?

While making her appearance at the tournament today, Kate helped prepare some of the world-famous Wimbledon strawberries.

The masked duchess also helped decorate tennis ball macaroons.

Placing an iced treat on the tea tray that was shipped up to the restaurant, she said: “No one will ever know”.

She was also shown how to hull Wimbledon’s iconic strawberries as fans ate their way through around two million every championship.

She added: “I’ve learnt two new things.”

The Duchess of Cambridge also spoke to staff about the return of the championship, which was cancelled last year due to the pandemic.

Kate “It is great to be back after last year obviously.

“Lovely to hear everyone is back. And to see the support and the spectators as well.”

She was also given a tour of the Wimbledon museum and marvelled at a portrait of Andy Murray by Maggi Hambling.

The Duchess said: “I love it. It has a lot of movement.

“It is very pretty.

“I like the concept of taking portraits back to the cities or home towns or here, it is such a good idea.”
