The Chancellor said that working remotely on Zoom throughout has been particularly harmful and “not great” for young employees in the early stages of their careers, according to the Telegraph. Face-to-face interaction is particularly “valuable” for younger staff, he said.
Rishi Sunak is supportive of lifting the ‘work from home’ guideline.
“I think for young people, especially, that ability to be in your office, be in your workplace and learn from others more directly, is something that’s really important and I look forward to us slowly getting back to that,” he told the newspaper.
Under the fourth step in the Prime Minister’s roadmap, set to begin on July 19, the Government will no longer ask people to work from home.
During the pandemic, employees were asked to work from home “where possible”, but after July 19 it will be up to the employers whether they will ask staff to return to offices.

The UK was one of the first to work from home, when possible, in March 2020, during the first national lockdown.
After July 19, Government rules will be exchanged for personal responsibility.
Mandatory face masks will end, but businesses and transports can enforce their own rules.
Social distancing and crowd limits will also be ditched.
People will be allowed to order at the bar at pubs and nightclubs have been given the all clear to open.
