WARNING: This article contains full spoilers for Loki season 1.
The events of Avengers Endgame will never be forgotten by Marvel fans. The film not only killed off some of the biggest characters in the MCU – such as Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) – but it also introduced a new aspect into the franchise: Time travel. The Avengers took down Thanos (Josh Brolin) by using time travel to change the course of history and defeat the mad titan – but in doing so, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes spurred on the arrival of Kang the Conqueror.
Kang was introduced in the final episode of Disney Plus TV show Loki (Tom Hiddleston).
American actor Jonathan majors played a different version of Kang (referred to as He Who Remains) before he was killed by Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino).
During his final speech, Kang revealed that his death would usher in other versions of himself to conquer the multiverse.
This exact problem was teased by Tony Stark in the midst of Avengers Endgame.

While the Avengers were working on their plan to change the course of time, Tony foreshadowed the next step of the MCU.
He said: “If you mess with time, it tends to mess back.”
Looking back on this quote after Loki has come to an end, it makes a lot more sense.
Loki and Sylvie did indeed mess with time, and the Time Variance Authority (the TVA), and found themselves facing Kang – the ruler of the multiverse.

Michael said: “Knowing that Kang was probably going to be the next big cross-movie villain, and because he is a time-travelling, multiversal adversary, it just always made so much sense.
“I came up with that big multiversal war mythology and pitched it out in the room one day to our producers. And they said, yeah, let’s go for it.
“We knew we were going to end up meeting the man behind the curtain. And then it was just on us to make sure that that meeting really delivered.”
The writer then delved further into how evil Kang is.
Michael said: “You had to leave a lot of meat on the bone in terms of how evil he could be, because that’s He Who Remains’ whole thing, that it’s not me who you should be afraid of: ‘It’s the other versions of me that are going to come.’
“It was trying to really hint at that terrifying evil within without going all the way there.”
Loki season one is available on Disney Plus now.
