The Duchess of York, 61, who is releasing her first novel, lifted the lid in a candid interview. Fergie looked to her past in order to write her book and remembered how she felt “not worthy of love” after her mother abandoned her.
The royal is set to release Her Heart for a Compass on August 3.
Fergie is already a successful children’s author, but this book will be her first adult novel.
The story follows the Duchess’ great-great-aunt through Ireland, the US and the UK as she decides to run from an arranged marriage.
The royal said that writing the novel allowed her to dive into her troubled past and address her eating disorders.

“I wish somebody had taken me in and helped me with all that.”
“It has been an opportunity to tell my story of self-discovery, the chance to feel closer to my past, ancestors and stories I grew up with,” the Duchess of York said.
“The main message I would like readers to take away from Margaret’s story is that no matter whether you make mistakes or get it all wrong, you keep going and fight for what you believe is your truth.”
Sarah Ferguson has already written and published several books, with the majority aimed at children.
