ITV’s Emmerdale is still going strong since its launch in 1972, and Emma Atkins is one of its brightest stars. The actor has played the role of Charity Dingle for more than 20 years.
At aged 25, Emma was offered the role of Charity Dingle on Emmerdale.
She played Charity, who is still one of the show’s most exciting characters, from 2000 to 2005.
After a break of four years, she reappeared as the character in 2009.
In 2015, she took a break again when she gave birth to her son, but rejoined the show soon after.
Emma’s other TV appearances include Dalziel and Pascoe, Mayo, I’m with Stupid, New Street Law, Doctors, and Casualty.
The actor has been nominated for numerous awards for her works on Emmerdale, including Best Actress at the British Soap Awards in 2010 and in 2018.
She also won Best Soap Actress at the TV Choice Awards in 2018.
The same year, she was named Best Actress at the Inside Soap Awards and at the Daily Star Soap Awards.
Emma’s character, Charity, has been married three times since her first appearance on the show in 2000.
The actor, though, keeps her personal life relatively private and has spoken only a handful of times in public about her partner, Tom.
Emma and Tom welcomed baby Albert into the world in 2015.
Speaking to Express.co.uk back in 2016, Emma opened up about her family life and being both an actor and a mother.
She said: “It’s the best feeling in the world knowing that Albert’s at home with his dad.
“I get home, and Tom tells me stories about what Albert’s done. Albert is thriving.
“They are a team, like Laurel and Hardy. It’s hilarious.”
