Elvis: Priscilla on how Lisa Marie’s name was chosen and what a boy would have been called | Music | Entertainment

Elvis Presley only had one child in Lisa Marie, with his wife Priscilla Presley. And during a fan Q&A on her official Facebook a few years ago, the only spouse of The King shared how they chose their daughter’s name. She said: “I bought a book of baby names for Elvis and I to choose from.”

Priscilla continued: “We would lay in bed night after night looking through all the names that would sound good together.

“We decided that Lisa Marie was beautiful for a girl…She wasn’t named after anyone.”

The now 75-year-old also shared what Elvis and her son would have been called had they had a boy.

She said: “I loved the name John Baron for a boy…he agreed.” However, Priscilla also had to dispel a rumour about Lisa Marie’s naming.

Priscilla said: “From what I hear, it was written somewhere that we may have taken the name Marie after Col. Parker, his manager’s wife, who was named Marie.

“That is not true. We just simply… liked those two names together.”

Earlier this week, the former wife of Elvis lost her mother Ann, who was The King’s mother-in-law, when she died aged 95.

Priscilla posted on her Instagram: “I am heartbroken. My beautiful mother passed today. She was the light of our lives. She never wanted any attention on herself.”

In 1948, Ann met her second husband who she would marry within the year, US Air Force officer Paul Beaulieu (who died in 2018 in the California home Elvis bought him).

Ann and Priscilla took on his surname upon adoption and the family would move across the US for his Air Force work at different military bases.

Then as fate would have it, in 1956 just as a young man named Elvis Presley was rising to fame, Paul was transferred to Wiesbaden, Germany and took his family with him.

It was here on September 13, 1959, that a 14-year-old Priscilla met a 24-year-old Elvis during his army service.
