Meghan Markle news: How the 40-year-old is inspiring women with their makeup

The project aims to help women who lost their jobs during the pandemic get back into work. Meghan Markle said: “Because I’m turning 40, I am asking 40 friends to donate 40 minutes of their time to help mentor a woman who’s mobilising back into the workforce.

“Over 2,000,000 women in the US alone and tens of millions around the world have lost their jobs due to Covid.

“I think if we all do it and all commit 40 minutes to some sort of active service we can create a ripple effect.”

Meghan’s makeup looked rather minimalist, with light pink lip-gloss, some brown eyeshadow, and filled-in eyebrows.

A professional makeup artist, Ruby Hammer MBE, spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk on why Meghan Markle has the perfect opportunity to inspire women 40 and over with their makeup.

Ruby said: “Meghan is definitely an inspiration, her make-up is very natural!

“It’s a very inspirational look as she’s always glowing with confidence, which really helps to show that you shouldn’t hide in make-up and instead you should use it to enhance your best features.”

Meghan’s confidence which certainly came across in her new video helps, according to Ruby, her makeup really shine.

Ruby offered her advice when it comes to applying makeup for women aged 40 and over, and which brands are absolute musts.

She continued: “I always love a red lipstick look as it can do wonders for your smile whatever your age!

“It adds a pop of colour in a photo and the strong pigment makes teeth look even brighter.

“My favourite products are Victoria Beckham Posh Lipstick in Pop (which I use myself) and Charlotte Tilbury Red Carpet Red.”

Meghan has worn red lipstick occasionally and looks fabulous when she wears it.

She tended to wear it more before she became a working royal because then she began wearing more nudes and pale pinks.

Ruby asserts that it is up to the individual, and there is no one size fits all approach when it comes to makeup, even when talking about women aged 40 and above.

She said: “It all depends on your skin tone; however the majority of people find that their skin gets drier as they get older.

“If this is the case then opt for a lightweight formula instead of a heavyweight one – remember, less is more!

“One rule of thumb is to make sure that it has an SPF 50 in to protect from your skin sun damage.”

Ruby is collaborating with Colgate for their PoutFree campaign, doing the makeup for the competition winners.

She said: “I opted for natural looks for all (and some red lips!) as the aim of the project was to ensure that everyone on the shoot felt confident in their own skin – and to ultimately help build the nation’s confidence to smile pout free when in front of the camera again this summer!

“Colgate’s research shed light on how self-conscious everyone’s feeling since lockdown, so I’m really grateful that I could be a part of the project and help in trying to change this.

“I’m hoping to see lots of people ditching the pout this summer and picking up their confidence instead!

“Everyone on shoot also had Colgate Max White Ultimate Renewal Whitening Toothpaste to try before the shoot which helped encourage people to show off their teeth in the portraits!”
