The incident took place on Friday at about 8.30pm local time on a commuter train and left one woman with multiple stab wounds in her back and chest.

The other victims sustained non life threatening injuries, according to local media Kyodo News.

They were rushed to the hospital, while one was well enough to walk away, according to authorities.

The police seized the man as he attempted to run from the scene.

The train was between Seijogakuen-mae station and Soshigaya-Okura station in the capital’s Setagaya Ward when the incident happened.
