Kate Middleton and Prince William: Kate’s change of heart on university choice

[ad_1]

On Tuesday students across the country found out which university they would be attending, a predicament Kate Middleton and Prince William both found themselves in the year 2000. A student’s university days might be life-changing, as proved by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge who would never have met if Kate attended a different university.

Kate reportedly had a sudden change of heart when it came to her studies, it is claimed.

In the book ‘Kate: The Future Queen’ by royal expert Katie Nicholl, it is revealed Kate had achieved a place at Edinburgh University.

Jasper Selwyn, a careers adviser at Kate’s former school Marlborough College, and Joan Gall her house tutor confirmed to Nicholl that Kate’s first choice of university was Edinburgh.

Selwyn said to Nicholl: “As far as I am aware she had a place confirmed at Edinburgh.

“She was accepted through the usual UCAS routine.

“In those days, you applied for five courses and got acceptances and rejections depending on your grades.

“You chose one firm place and one insurance.

“Kate’s firm choice was Edinburgh and that was confirmed.”

However, a change of heart saw Kate decide to reject the place and instead take a gap year before applying to go to St Andrew’s the following year.

It was a risky move as she wasn’t guaranteed a place at St Andrew’s, especially as it was then revealed as the university that Prince William would be attending, attracting more applications than usual.

Applications went up by 44 percent when the announcement was made, compared with the previous year, according to figures from the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service.

Kate earned a place to study History of Art and it paved the way for her meeting her future husband.

Prince William was also experiencing a gap year after he graduated from Eton in 2000.

He and Kate became close friends after sharing student accommodation, where they started their relationship.

The young Prince was studying geography and later graduated in June 2005 in the same ceremony as Kate.

It was attended by the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, and the Duchess of Cornwall.

Now 16 years on, William and Kate have been happily married for 10 years and are parents to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Earlier this year in May 2021, the royal couple returned to the university campus for a week of engagements in Scotland.

They were spotted enjoying a quiet romantic meal at Forgan’s, a contemporary Scottish restaurant.

They were also seen enjoying fish and chips in Anstruther from a local takeaway as well as ice cream.
