Ringo at the time was performing with Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, but was called up by Paul who had an offer he couldn’t refuse.

The drummer settled into the band rather quickly, going on to record some songs with them almost as soon as he joined.

Pete, on the other hand, went back to Liverpool.

Later that year, Ringo reportedly called out Pete’s drumming when asked about why he was chosen over the previous drummer.

Ringo said: “Pete Best? – it’s no offence, but I never felt he was a great drummer.” (Via Culture Sonar)

30 years later Ringo was asked once again if he felt sorry for Pete’s dismissal from the band.

He replied: “No. Why should I? I was a better player than him. That’s how I got the job!”​ (Via Culture Sonar) ​

The drummer was also quizzed about his opinion on beating Pete to the finish line by Howard Stern.

Paul added: “I do feel sorry for him, because of what he could have been on to.”

George said: “We weren’t very good at telling Pete he had to go.

“Historically, it may look like we did something nasty to Pete and it may have been that we could have handled it better.”

Despite George’s remorse ​for the situation, he did feel he had a proper reason to get rid of ​Pete.

Also in the Beatles: Anthology he said: “Pete kept being sick and not showing up for gigs.

“I was quite responsible for stirring things up. I conspired to get Ringo in for good; I talked to Paul and John until they came round to the idea.”
