Marvel hits back at Dave Bautista after Drax the Destroyer TV show snub | Films | Entertainment

Earlier this week Disney released the first episode of their latest Disney Plus show What If…? Later on in the season, the Guardians of the Galaxy will be coming into contact with Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman. Drax star Bautista will not be involved, however, something the actor was very vocal about on his Twitter account. In a recent interview an executive producer from Marvel, Brad Winderbaum, hit back at the actor’s comments.

Winderbaum began by saying every Marvel actor was asked to play their respective character “in some way, shape or form, either through their agents or directly” in What If…?
When he was asked specifically about Bautista’s comments, Winderbaum said: “I saw that, too. I don’t know really what happened behind the scenes there.
“But certainly, we would have loved for him to be in the show. So there’s probably some miscommunication somewhere.” (Via Variety)
Bautista wasn’t the only actor who didn’t reprise his role for the animated show set in the MCU.

The likes of Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Tom Holland and Elizabeth Olsen are not present in What If…?
This, Winderbaum explained, was not something he was happy about.
He said: “Part of it, I think, was literally the schedule – maybe. I mean, I don’t know. We didn’t push that hard.”
The Marvel boss’ comments follow Bautista’s outburst last week on his social media account.
Gunn simply replied: “What.”
This was not the first time Bautista has hit out about his employers, however.
In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk earlier this year, Bautista revealed: “I’m kind of just there. I’m a hired actor, I’m told what to do, I’m directed what to do. There’s not a massive amount to contribute to [Drax].”
He went on: “The thing is, I’m so comfortable playing Drax. I’ve done so many films as Drax now.”
Bautista added: “… Drax is so fleshed out. I am so comfortable with him, I know who he is, I know who my castmates are, I know who their characters are, I know James’ directing style and what it’s going to be like.”
He has also previously spoken out about bringing his time in the MCU to an end.
He said: “We work in trilogies and James Gunn has already announced that it’s his last film, and when James is done I’m done.”
Guardians of the Galaxy, What If…? and other Marvel films are available on Disney Plus now.
