Shang-Chi: Simu Liu stars in dramatic Marvel trailer
Overnight Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings premiered in Los Angeles, California. The stars of the show attended the red carpet event, including Shang-Chi star Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Tony Chiu-Wai Leung and Michelle Yeoh. Also in attendance of Marvel‘s Phase 4 movie were a number of critics who were keen to sound off about how good the film was on Twitter.

ComicBook.com’s Brandon Davis said the film was “darker than expected” – continuing the more adult trend the Disney Plus shows (Loki, WandaVision, et al) have taken.
He wrote: “#ShangChi is awesome. This movie hits all that Marvel does well (pacing, humour, character) and adds action like we’ve never seen from the MCU before! Lots of people are about to have a new favourite Marvel hero. Darker than expected. Loads of fun. Integral to MCU Phase 4!” (sic)
Kirsten Acuna from Insider agreed: “#ShangChi is fantastic. It’s full of INCREDIBLE, beautifully choreographed fight scenes and full of bad**s women. Get ready to know Simu Liu’s name if you don’t already. Marvel has another hit on its hands.” (sic)
Dorian Parks from Geeks of Colour added: “#ShangChi is an action-packed adventure that checks all the summer blockbuster boxes. Simu shines bringing a long overdue comics character to the silver screen. The fighting is another level and it has some hilarious moments throughout it.” (sic)

Shang-Chi reviews have praised the films action and heart
Many of the reviews on Twitter added that Shang-Chi included a staggering amount of martial arts action.
Steve Weintraub added that Shang-Chi is like nothing else in the MCU.
He said: “#Shangchi is like no Marvel movie you’ve seen. Love that it opens the door to a new world that I can’t wait to see more of. Simu Liu literally kicks so much a** and he is perfectly cast. Got to see it in imax tonight and this is how you want to see it. Looked and sounded perfect.” (sic)
Fans of the MCU have a lot to look forward to, as Shang-Chi is the first superhero with a direct relation to a supervillain.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige recently commented on the film, saying: “Shang-Chi is a movie that ended up on a ‘Wouldn’t It Be Great’ list where ‘Wouldn’t it be great if we could do this as a movie,’ probably twenty years ago.
“It’s a great story of a young man that realises his father is essentially one of the world’s greatest supervillains and one of the world’s greatest criminals.
“How do you process that? And how do you deal with that as a child? How do you evolve beyond that?” (Via Rotten Tomatoes)
Feige also recently spoke about the supervillain in question, Wenwu, played by Tony Leung.

Leung plays The Mandarin, a crime boss who has nothing but malevolent intentions.
The character was previously introduced in Iron Man 3, played by Ben Kingsley, but he was revealed to be a fraud.
Feige explained: “We talked about Simu, but also talking about Tony Leung, you mention the family aspect of the movie which I still don’t think people are quite ready for what Tony brings to this movie and what the relationship and how unique it is and how emotional this movie becomes.” (Via Marvel)
Writer of the film David Callaham also recently confessed: “Our version of the character is not The Mandarin in the way that people are expecting him to be.” (Via Empire)
David continued: “The Mandarin is a title that has been applied to him in the past by people that don’t understand his culture. But he’s a much deeper character than I think a lot of people would expect.”
Earlier this month the runtime for Shang-Chi was revealed by US cinema chain Cinemark.
The movie’s runtime is 2 hours and 12 minutes.
