Spider-Man No Way Home: Tobey Maguire ‘confirmed’ to be in film by star | Films | Entertainment

Over the past year rumours have surfaced online suggesting Spider-Man: No Way Home will reintroduce two previous iterations of the web-head. Former Peter Parker actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield have been tipped to share the screen with Tom Holland in a battle against the Sinister Six, but nothing has been confirmed – until now.

In a new interview with Mr Dell actor JB Smoove, it was revealed Maguire will be making a comeback.

The actor has been a part of the series since Spider-Man: Homecoming, before reprising his role in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

The American star was asked: “Which Spider-Man were you excited to see Tom Holland share the screen with: Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield?”

Smoove replied: “Tobey Maguire, of course, man.” (Via The Illuminerdi)

This information may not be entirely surprising to fans considering the trailer for No Way Home was just released, which revealed the return of a classic Spider-Man villain.

During the final moments of the featured video, a set of metal tentacles attacked Holland’s Peter, before Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus was revealed.

The menacing foe said: “Hello, Peter,” before Spidey suited up for battle.

The mere presence of Molina’s Doc Ock suggests Maguire could be making an appearance, considering they battled it out in 2004’s Spider-Man 2.

When Garfield was asked to clarify his stance on not being in the film, he said: “I would’ve gotten a call by now. That’s what I’m saying.”

He didn’t rule it out, however. He added: “I don’t want to rule anything out. Maybe they are going to call me and say: ‘Hey, people want this.’ … Maybe they are doing like a market research thing.”

Holland has also denied Maguire or Garfield have any involvement in the film.

When asked by Jimmy Fallon if fans will see the previous Spideys, he replied: “No, no, they will not be appearing in this film.”

Holland went on: “Unless they have hidden the most massive piece of information from me, which I think is too big of a secret for them to keep from me.

“It would be a miracle if they could have kept that from me.”

Molina, on the other hand, confirmed his involvement in the film long before the trailer was released, calling it the “worst-kept secret in Hollywood”.

Spider-Man: No Way Home hits cinemas on December 17, 2021.
