Tom Cruise movies delayed: Top Gun 2 Maverick and Mission Impossible 7 new release dates | Films | Entertainment

James Bond movie No Time To Die isn’t the only blockbuster that’s been delayed multiple times due to the pandemic. While Daniel Craig’s 007 finale is currently staying put with its September 30 UK release date, Paramount Pictures has shifted its two big Tom Cruise sequels. Top Gun 2 aka Top Gun: Maverick, has been delayed from its November 19 slot all the way back to May 27, 2022.

However, Cruise’s other upcoming blockbuster Mission Impossible 7 was sitting on that May release date and has now been moved to September 30, 2022.

The Ethan Hunt spy movie will be followed up by Mission Impossible 8, which was originally set to shoot back-to-back with its predecessor.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount has also moved Jackass Forever back from October 22, 2021 to February 4, 2022.

The studio’s delays are due to the fact that concerns over the delta variant have reportedly affected cinema attendance, which is not good news for the most expensive Hollywood movies.

Nevertheless, The Hollywood Reporter added: “Paramount, like other studios, regularly consults with epidemiologists on decisions such as this, and the studio is hopeful the box office will recover in 2022 when these films are now set to open.”

With Top Gun 2 leaving November 19 open, Sony’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife has moved back a week to take the spot left open.

Back in May, No Time To Die beat Top Gun: Maverick in a poll of the Top 40 movies Brits can’t wait to see in cinemas.
