It has been a difficult few months for the hospitality, food, and logistics industries as Britain continues to be hit with product shortages. Non-food retailers have also announced missing items as they struggle to keep up with customer demand amid a lack of workers and drivers.

All 22 Ikea stores across the UK are experiencing shortages, with some outlets having completely run out of mattresses.

An Ikea spokesperson said: “Like many retailers, we are experiencing ongoing challenges with our supply chains due to COVID-19 and labour shortages, with transport, raw materials and sourcing all impacted.

“In addition, we are seeing higher customer demand as more people are spending more time at home.”

The spokesperson added: “We hope this will reduce as the situation improves in the coming weeks and months.

One person said: “@IKEAUKSupport Hi. I’m looking to purchase your Hovag mattress in either a standard King or a 140 x 200. Ideally for collection from Leeds. Both sizes are currently showing as out of stock for both collection and delivery any idea if this a short or long term issue?”

Another person added: “@IKEAUK what’s going on with lack of stock? My wishlist has been out of stock for weeks (Birstall) and its normal malm furniture I’m waiting to buy. Thanks.”

Ikea is not the only company currently faced with shortages.

This week, Coca-Cola confirmed it was running low on Diet Coke and Coke Zero.

The brand’s supply chain is under pressure due to a shortage of aluminium cans.

Nik Jhangiani, Chief Financial Officer of Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP), told PA news agency: “Supply chain management has become the most important aspect, following the pandemic, to ensure we have continuity for customers.

“We are very happy with how we have performed in the circumstances, with service levels higher than a lot of our market competitors.

“There are still logistical challenges and issues though, as with every sector, and the shortage of aluminium cans is a key one for us now, but we are working with customers to successfully manage this.”
