Freddie Mercury at 75: Queen release incredible tribute video to their late singer – WATCH | Music | Entertainment

Born Farrokh Bulsara in Zanzibar on September 5 1946, Freddie Mercury would have been 75 years old today. The Queen singer died tragically young after losing his battle to AIDS 30 years ago this November. However, his legacy as a rock icon lives on as fans around the world celebrate the star to this day.
Kicking off celebrations today, the official Queen and Freddie Mercury YouTube channels have shared an incredible tribute video to the singer.
The video begins with a classic interview in which the star reflected on himself and what he wanted for his fans.
Freddie said: “Maybe I’m a very tragic person, I don’t know why. But there’s an element of humour at the end, y’know. So that’s basically what my songs are all about.
“I like to enjoy myself and what better way to do that than on stage in front of 300,000 people.”

Freddie added: “I also just want everyone to have a good time and just forget their problems and just let themselves go for a little while. I’m possessed by love. Isn’t everybody though?”
The interview clip was followed by footage and pictures of the Queen singer performing as he sings It’s A Beautiful Day and Don’t Stop Me Now.
Before the video ended with him saying: “I’ll always walk around like a Persian popinjay, and no one’s gonna stop me, honey!”
Aside from 2021 marking Freddie’s 75th birthday and 30 years since his death, this year is also the 50th anniversary of Queen.
While speaking with Roger Taylor a couple of months ago, we ask if Freddie would still be performing with Queen 50 years on.
The Queen drummer said he likes to think that the singer would still be with the band and have an attitude of “if it’s still working, keep going!”
The 72-year-old said: “It would have been fascinating to see, had he lived, what we’d have been up to.
“Whether we’d still be together…I like to think that we would be. We were pretty close as a unit and we never did break up.”
