Former President Donald Trump and his son, Donald Trump Jr, will host a boxing commentary on 11 September – the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.

Mr Trump will commentate the match between Evander Holyfield and Vitor Belfort in Hollywood, Florida.

“I love great fighters and great fights,” Trump Sr, a former boxing promoter, said.

“I look forward to seeing both this Saturday night and sharing my thoughts ringside. You won’t want to miss this special event.”

The event has been dubbed “the most anticipated heavyweight fight of the year”, with the Trump duo calling the entire four-fight telecast.

Fite.tv, which is promoting the match, said he will be “live in person” with “no holds barred”.

Mr Trump’s controversial presidency came to an end in January with the inauguration of Joe Biden and since leaving office, he has not made many public appearances.

Following his permanent suspension from Twitter, he has faded into the background after his attempts to appeal the result of the election failed.

The pay-per-view for the fight is $49.99 (£36.29) in North America and $13.99 (£9.99) in the UK.

It takes place on Saturday, the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York, Virginia and Pennsylvania that killed almost 3,000 people.

Prior to his single-term presidency, Mr Trump styled himself as a business adviser to Mike Tyson and promoted a handful of the world’s biggest fights and names in the late 1980s and early 90s.

The former world leader has drawn derision for the announcement.

Australian boxing author Alex McClintock wrote on Twitter: “If you ever feel like things are going badly, remember Donald Trump went from President of the United States to commentator on a novelty boxing match in Florida between two guys with a combined age of 102 in less than nine months.”
