Pirates of the Caribbean ‘gets new reboot by Disney’ – bad news for Johnny Depp fans | Films | Entertainment

Since the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean film, Salazar’s Revenge, in 2017, the franchise has been left a little up in the air. Because of Johnny Depp‘s alleged abuse case against his ex-wife, Amber Heard, the star has reportedly “lost” his spot in the Disney series. Since then, a sixth Pirates movie is reportedly in the works. On top of that, another film in the Pirates universe is coming with Margot Robbie leading the movie – but now there is allegedly a third in development.
This week it was reported a third, entirely different Pirates of the Caribbean film is being produced at Disney.

At the moment, information about this new Pirates film is scarce, however, it does come with the news that the movie will be released exclusively on Disney Plus.
This isn’t the first time Disney have released a new film on their streaming service – the new Pirates movie follows the likes of Soul, Raya and the Last Dragon and The Mandalorian.

Considering this is a brand new Pirates project, fans of the series can certainly expect the arrival of a collection of new characters.
However, without Jack Sparrow involved, will viewers be able to latch on to the project as gleefully?
There is no doubt Disney could certainly recruit some other major characters from the films.
The likes of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) could certainly make an appearance.
Bruckheimer said: “The one we’re developing right now, we’re not sure quite what Johnny’s role is going to be. So, we’re going to have to see.”
Although this may be heartbreaking for fans of the series, nothing has been set in stone just yet.
The other project, involving The Suicide Squad star Robbie, is due to introduce a collection of female pirates to the Caribbean.
Speaking in 2020, Robbie explained the new movie, which is being penned by Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson, will have “lots of girl power”.
She went on: “It’s too early to talk about it. I love Christina, obviously.
“I’m not a producer on Pirates, so I’ll sit back and kind of wait for the process. We’re really, really excited at the prospect of adding obviously a very key female element to that world.”
The Pirates of the Caribbean films are available on Disney Plus now.
