Meghan Markle: Royal’s Diana watch – more pricey than Kate Middleton’s

The British Royal Family wave to admiring crowds on an almost daily basis when conducting royal walkabouts, and royal fans always get excited to see what jewellery they are adorning on their wrists. The Royal Family’s luxury jewels and sentimental timepieces usually come in the form of tiaras, necklaces, and rings, but the royals also like to wear a flashy watch every now and again. Some royals have more expensive watches than other members of the family, according to jewellery experts.
This watch is valued at a whopping £300,000, making it the second most expensive watch owned by the Royal Family.
The Queen’s ‘La Reine’ watch, worn at her coronation in 1953, was a gift to her from Vincent Auriol the then President of France and is the most expensive watch owned by the Royal Family.
Valued at an insanely expensive £3million, it is embellished with 110 diamonds.
But Meghan’s Cartier Tank Française watch is the second-most expensive watch owned by a member of the Royal Family, and it is certainly beautiful.
Sarah Buck, a spokesperson from H&T, told Express.co.uk: “This iconic watch, previously owned by Princess Diana, is the 18-carat yellow gold version and because of the age of the watch, is probably a mechanical movement.
“This watch retails around for £20,000 now but when purchased circa 1995 (possibly from Garrards the Crown Jeweller), it would have cost between £3,000 – £4,000.
“However with the provenance of being owned by Princess Diana and now Meghan Markle it could be worth £250-£300,000.”
During the Oprah Winfrey interview with Meghan and Harry in March, royal watchers noticed that on her left wrist, Meghan was wearing the diamond Cartier watch that once belonged to her mother-in-law, Princess Diana.
Royal commentators subsequently theorised Meghan’s decision to wear the watch for this interview was a calculated move designed to reinforce her similarity to Diana who tragically died in 1997, which many saw as a result of press intrusion.
An anonymous royal source told timeandtidewatches.com: “Many believe Meghan’s choice of this jewel is echoing Harry’s statement seen in the previews for the Oprah interview, ‘My biggest concern was history repeating itself.’”
On the other hand, the Duchess of Cambridge owns a much less expensive watch collection.
She is often spotted at events wearing a stainless steel Ballon Bleu De Cartier with an automatic movement.
The bracelet watch has striking blue hands and a large Roman numeral dial.
H&T experts have revealed the 33mm sized watch currently retails for £5,350 but could fetch circa £20,000 if it came onto the market.
A third wedding anniversary gift from Prince William, the watch also has sentimental value.
The Duke had a sapphire added to the frame of the watch, to complement Kate’s engagement ring.
