London fireworks CANCELLED – where you CAN watch fireworks this NYE

[ad_1]

The world-famous London New Year’s Eve fireworks have been cancelled yet again due to “uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic”. However, a spokesperson for Sadiq Khan has revealed there will be a different event in place of the iconic firework display. Express.co.uk reveals where you CAN watch fireworks this New Year’s Eve in London and elsewhere in the UK and will update this page when more information is available.

London

London’s New Year’s Eve fireworks display has been called off again, but another event is taking its place in Trafalgar Square

A spokesman for Mayor Sadiq Khan said: “This year, as always, London will be welcoming the new year in a spectacular way.

“Due to the uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, our world-famous New Year’s Eve display will not be held on the banks of the Thames this year.

“Last year’s successful show took place in a slightly different way due to the pandemic, and this year a number of exciting new options are being considered as part of our New Year’s Eve celebrations in London.

“Further details of this year’s celebration will be announced in due course.”

The event will be limited to 9,999 people and there will be a play, film, live music, recorded music, alcohol for sale, late-night refreshments and dance events in the lead up to the fireworks and afterwards.

Edinburgh

Edinburgh’ Hogmanay New Year’s Eve fireworks, parties and events will hopefully be on this year, but it’s too early to know if it will go ahead for sure.

Last year the famous event wasn’t on due to the pandemic, but viewers from over 50 countries watched the three-part Fare Well firework show, and this year’s event should be just as spectacular.

Cardiff

Cardiff normally hosts a free New Year’s Eve party at the City Hall, but it hasn’t been confirmed for 2021/2022 yet.

The family-friendly event normally includes a fireworks display over the bay, and it’s near enough to the Winter Wonderland event to flit between the two locations.

Newcastle upon Tyne

New Year’s Eve in Newcastle is always expected to be an exciting and lively affair, with a range of different events taking place in the city.

The display will be taking part in the Civic Centre this year and it will be free of charge.

In the lead-up to midnight, there will be street theatre, live music and drinks flowing until the fireworks start.
