Lewis Capaldi has won big at the ASCAP London Music Awards, bagging four trophies – including for song and songwriter of the year.

The Scottish crooner, who has stepped back from the limelight in recent months to put the finishing touches on a new album, was recognised by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers for his hit Someone You Loved at the awards, which were revealed on social media.

The track was also named the top streaming song, while follow up Before You Go was recognised as a hot 100 song.

Elsewhere, the track RITMO, by the Black Eyed Peas and J Balvin, which was co-written by Pete Glenister, won two awards – the top hot dance/electronic track, and as a hot 100 song.

British performers Becky Hill, MNEK, Steve Mac, Jasmine Thompson and Bastille’s Dan Smith also won trophies.

Composers from the big and small screens were also recognised by ASCAP with 11 awards.

Daniel Pemberton’s work on DC’s Birds Of Prey won top box office film of the year, with the likes of Christopher Benstead for Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, Isobel Waller-Bridge and David Schweitzer for Emma and Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber for the film version of Cats also handed movie prizes.

In a video greeting to this year’s winners, ASCAP chairman of the board and established songwriter Paul Williams, said: “We’ve learned that however wide the space is between us, we are connected at a soul level. Your music reminds us of that.

“When your music connects with millions of people, that’s power. That can change the world… Congratulations to all of this year’s winners for your achievements.

“ASCAP is an organisation of songwriters, composers and music publishers from across all genres and works to license and promote the music of its members and foreign affiliates.”
