Next James Bond: Oscar-winning director would ‘deeply love’ to direct 007 | Films | Entertainment

Last month the latest James Bond movie No Time To Die hit cinemas, marking a special ending for Daniel Craig‘s version of 007. Since then, there has been much debate over which actor should take over as the super spy. Whoever it is, a Blade Runner director is keen to take over the leader of one of the franchise’s movies.

Denis Villeneuve, of Blade Runner 2049 fame, has announced he would “love” to take on a Bond movie going forward.

The Canadian director was asked if Bond was still on his “directing wish list”. He replied: “Franky, the answer would be a massive yes.”

The star, who was promoting his new movie Dune, went on: “I would deeply love one day to make a James Bond movie. It’s a character that I’ve been with since my childhood.

“I have massive affection for Bond. It would be a big challenge to try and reboot it after what Daniel did.” (Via Happy Sad Confused Podcast)

Villeneuve then revealed how sad he was to see Craig leaving the iconic cinematic role.

He continued: “What Daniel Craig brought to Bond was so unique and strong and honestly unmatchable. He’s the ultimate James Bond.

“I can’t wait to see [director] Cary [Joji Fukunaga’s] movie. I’m very excited. I’m one of the biggest Bond fans.”

The Arrival director confessed he “didn’t know” if him taking on Bond would ever happen – but he added: “It would be a privilege. That would be pure cinematic joy.”

The Amy Adams-fronted movie won a Best Sound Editing Oscar at the 2017 Academy Awards.

A year later, Villeneuve’s film Blade runner 2049 won two more awards.

The epic sci-fi series reboot won an award for Best Cinematography – the first for cinematographer Roger Deakins.

It also won an award for Best Visual Effects.

One of the previous Bond directors, Sam Mendes, was also an Oscar-winner before he took on his first 007 movie, Skyfall.

Before the Craig movie, Mendes had already won six Academy Awards.

He had won five Oscars for the 1999 movie American Beauty and another for the 2002 film Road to Perdition.

James Bond No Time To Die is in cinemas now.
