Kate Middleton: Pleated skirt causes rise in demand – shows an ‘enchanting attainability’

Kate Middleton paired her red pleated skirt with a matching red turtleneck jumper. The top was the ‘Polo Ralph Lauren Slim Fit Cashmere Turtleneck Jumper in Martin Red’ which cost £225. Kate’s pleated skirt was the ‘Christopher Kane crystal fringe pleated skirt in red’ which cost the Duchess £724.

She opted for a look with no coat or many accessories.

Design resources company ‘Design Bundles’ spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about the Duchess of Cambridge causing an upsurge in ‘pleated skirt’ Google searches.

According to the company, there was a 250 percent jump in searches on Google Trends for ‘pleated skirt’ on October 20, the day after Kate wore one to the charity campaign launch for ‘Taking Action on Addiction’.

Kate wore quite a traditional outfit however the popularity online from royal fans was quite apparent.

New research from creative resource Design Bundles revealed to Express.co.uk that online interest in pleated skirts skyrocketed to three times the average volume in one day.

A spokesperson for Design Bundles, which conducted the research, spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about the Duchess’s ensemble.

They said: “Kate Middleton is the ultimate style icon, and it’s very telling that her latest appearance in an expertly colour blocked skirt has sparked such an immediate rise in searches for similar pleated skirts.

“At every event, the Duchess of Cambridge reveals herself as a fashion inspiration for all women: seamless, classy, and graceful, she combines royal elegance with an enchanting attainability: from her habit of recycling outfits to the fact that the pieces she wears are often available in high street stores.

“Her tradition of wearing bold, monochrome outfits like her red skirt and turtleneck ensemble at The Forward Trust’s campaign launch is very similar to The Queen’s penchant for wearing bold, colour blocked pieces, and could well be a tribute to Her Majesty.”
