Speaking from a financial perspective, money saving expert Martin Lewis wrote in the latest edition of his newsletter that the financial rewards for having these systems installed had ‘fallen rapidly’ over the last few years.

Now, it could take homeowners anywhere between 15 and 30 years to recoup their investment which will be leaving some people wondering whether it’s worth it.

The financial guru said that although installation prices have reduced over recent years, when it comes to having solar panels fitted, the payout from using solar is much less than it used to be.

Mr Lewis explained: “The good news is panel prices have dropped a touch over the years, from over £6,000 for a decent-sized 3kW system eight years ago, to under £5,000 now.”
