Marvel fans around the world were devastated when the Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman died in 2020. The actor, who lost his life on August 28, 2020, from colon cancer, had previously played T’Challa in Black Panther, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame. It has long been rumoured Boseman’s character would be recast with a new actor for the upcoming sequel, Black Panther Wakanda Forever, but Moore has now confirmed what will happen.

Moore is the Marvel VP of Production & Development at Marvel Studios.

He recently appeared on The Ringer Podcast where he was asked directly about the future of T’Challa and Black Panther.

The Marvel boss replied: “I will say the chances that you see T’Challa in our – I’m not hedging my bets, I’m being quite honest – you will not see T’Challa in the MCU 616 universe. We couldn’t do it.”

He went on to reveal he has been discussing the next step of the character with the Black Panther director, Ryan Coogler.

Moore continued: “I will say when Chad passed it was a real conversation we had with Coogler, and it was a fast conversation. It wasn’t weeks, it was minutes of ‘we have to figure out how to move this franchise on without that character’.

“We all feel so much of T’Challa in the MCU on the screen – not in the comics – is tied to Chadwick’s performance. On what he brought to the role both on and off-screen.

“So, as hard as it is narratively to figure out what to do – because it is a big hole – at no point did we consider recasting him.”

The Disney boss went on to speak candidly about how the movie’s sequel, Black Panther Wakanda Forever, is shaping up without the aforementioned late star.

Earlier this month it was rumoured T’Challa’s position as the Black Panther hero would be taken over by his younger sister, Shuri.

Shuri is played by British star Letitia Wright, who appeared alongside Boseman in all his Marvel movies to date.

Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman recently revealed to his fans: “I can confirm Shuri is the lead and Namor is the villain.”

If Shuri is the lead in the next Black Panther movie, this would mean she is taking over as the protector of Wakanda.

Shuri’s takeover would also mean she might become the next member of the Avengers.

The young recruit would likely join the ranks of the upcoming Ms Marvel, as well as the relatively recently inducted Spider-Man.

Alternatively, will Shuri simply act as the protagonist of the movie to usher in the next Black Panther warrior?
