It’s been two and half years since Game of Thrones concluded on TV, with the last few seasons entering the territory of yet-to-be-written books. And with over 10 years since the last A Song of Ice and Fire novel was published in A Dance of Dragons, author George RR Martin is still hard at work on The Winds of Winter. The penultimate book in the series has no release date, but the 73-year-old has confirmed in his latest blog post that he’s plugging away at the epic, among a ton of other projects.

Martin updated fans on his blog that he’s opening a restored 19th century railroad called Sky Railway, which will run between Santa Fe and Lamy in his home state of New Mexico.

The author, who has an estimated net worth of $120 million, purchased the railway in 2020 with a group of business partners.

During the post, he wrote: “ I have working, yes, yes… but not on the railroad. I have been writing WINDS OF WINTER.”

Aside from working on the long-delayed Game of Thrones novel, the 73-year-old said he’s been editing three new Wild Cards books and has had some big TV adaptation meetings.

Listing the many other projects he’s involved with, Martin joked: “[I’ve been] sitting down with some amazing screenwriters and showrunners to create three hundred and seventeen new GAME OF THRONES successor shows for HBO and HBO Max.

“And [I’m] serving as executive producer on various other television and film projects in various stages of development.

“[These include] DARK WINDS for AMC, JOKERTOWN for Peacock, ROADMARKS and WHO FEARS DEATH for HBO.

“Oh, and I was the executive producer on our (recently wrapped) short film of Howard Waldrop’s NIGHT OF THE COOTERS.”

When Martin finally finishes The Winds of Winter he intends on writing a fourth Dunk and Egg short story.

The tales follow Dunk, the future Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his squire Egg, the future King Aegon V Targaryen, 90 years before the events of A Game of Thrones

He was the grandfather of the Mad King Aerys II Targaryen, who was killed by Sir Jaime Lannister during Robert Baratheon’s Rebellion.

Following that short, Martin will begin work on the final A Song of Ice and Fire book, A Dream of Spring, followed by a fifth Dunk and Egg story and then on to Fire and Blood volume 2.
