Trinny Woodall, who advised UK television viewers on What Not to Wear and now runs beauty empire Trinny London, found a shocking discrepancy in the price of items from popular high street store Zara.

“So, since when has the pound been worth less than the euro? Or else they’re really swizzing us.”

She added: “Zara really needs to sort out their euro to pound translations.”

Next, the style advisor showed off a green wool coat from the retailer. “Another lovely price point, Zara,” she said, looking at the label again.

“If you bought it in Europe it’s €169 and that’s £199 they’re charging us,” she explained.

Using a conversion site, the expert did some quick maths.

She said: “If I go online, what’s €169 in pounds? If it’s £199 it should be €269 in Europe but it wasn’t, it was €169.

“So my God, Zara you’re ripping us off.”

When looking at today’s exchange rate, £199 is equivalent to €235.

The €66 difference means the price of the coat is 39% higher in the UK than in countries that use the euro.

Zara is a Spanish fashion company, based in Arteixo, Galicia.
