M&S under fire from Christians for ‘Merry Pigmas’ Christmas cards – ‘absolutely offensive’

[ad_1]

The popular retailer faced backlash for flogging Christmas cards depicting pigs. Angry Christians were angry, claiming that the store replaced Christ with a pig.

Shelter, Breast Cancer Now, Royal British Legion and Macmillan Cancer Support will each receive 24 percent of the donations.

Marie Claire will receive four percent.

However, despite their charitable intentions, many believe they missed the mark.

Laura, a priest’s daughter took to Facebook to voice her concern, asking if they would “replace the name of another religion’s prophet with ‘pig’ for a laugh?”.

DON’T MISS

The Oxford local echoed this sentiment: “Honestly, M&S – would you replace the name of another religion’s prophet with ‘pig’ for a laugh? This is unacceptable.”

Emma Woodgate said: “Absolutely offensive! Image doing that with any other deity! We are a Christian country!”

Amanda Jane stated: “Deeply offensive. What an arrogant attitude for Marks and Spencer to have…. to think this is even acceptable.”

Anthea Rochelle Christodoulou wrote: “Yes I don’t agree with that mockery at all. Christmas is the celebration of Christ not anything else.”

Many found that the true meaning behind Christmas was being pushed to the side in favour of a more secular, funny approach.

On Premier Christian News, Peter Townsend suggested that there were bigger issues.

He said: “There are plenty of worse things to get outraged about before we get to Percy Pig. M&S have been practically excluding Christ from their Christmas for years. They aren’t a Christian company and we shouldn’t expect them to exhibit Christian behaviour.”

Peter continued: “If we object to this card we should be equally vocal about equally offensive cards from other retailers.”

Others deemed the angry parties “snowflakes”, urging them to “get a grip”, as reported by The Mirror.

Twitter also erupted with opinions over the controversy.

@kezt88 said: “Jesus wept, its a bit of fun, like everything if it doesn’t suit you, move along. I’m sick to death of this nonsense.”

@tatstommo seconded this, posing the question: “For god’s sake, we could all lighten up a wee bit, eh?”
